THE SPACE

Modesty Hair Studio is located in the East Village building in the 11th St District. East Village is a mixed used building consisting of business and living space, designed by Bercy Chen Studios. All business spaces are inside a steel structure with floor to ceiling glass to keep the use of energy down while still having the benefit of natural light. The space has an industrial feel so it was softened with a little art deco style and a bit of a modern twist. Song Montesinos and Naomi Vigil Richardson are the owners of Modesty and have been working side by side in the hair industry for over 10 years. Their passion for style and ever changing trends inspired the creation of Modesty Hair Studio.

GREEN IS THE NEW BLACK

Modesty was inspired by these energy efficient spaces to become progressively eco-friendly. Energy efficient bulbs have been installed into all the vintage inspired lighting fixtures. Most of the furniture, are antiques bought at local shops that were used to create a retro look. Custom built structures were created with recycled woods, metals and plastics. When the walls were painted, toxic fumes were taken into consideration. Non-toxic and no VOC paints were found in many soothing colors. No chemicals were used to seal the concrete floors they simply were polished to get that perfect shine. Realizing that salons produce a lot of waste, the goal was to minimize that waste. Modesty recycles everything from the usual plastic and glass bottles, aluminum cans to the foils that are used to highlight hair with. Don’t worry, Modesty didn’t forget about the hair that we cut off those pretty heads. The salon donates all the hair to a non-profit organization, Matter of Trust. When they are accepting hair, they use it to make hair mats that are used to help clean oil spills. All our business cards and paper goods are made out of recycled paper too.

Modesty is a hair salon that offers services by talented and creative Austin stylists. The stylists are highly trained to specialize in men and women hair cuts, all over color, highlights, up-dos and traditional blowouts. Whether you are looking for an everyday natural look or an avant-garde style, the Modesty Girls have the skills to accommodate every client that walks through the door.
